The Slingbox PRO is a media device that will let you stream what’s on your TV to the internet. This is one of the coolest little machine I’ve seen in a long time. It doesn’t matter if you’re in the next room or 1000 miles away from home, you will be able to watch TV in 1080i HD as if you are at home. The Slingbox PRO is the most advanced of the sling media line up as of writing this so I will be doing a review on the Sling box PRO.

Imagine yourself at a friend or families place and they don’t even have satellite or cable TV, you can easily connect to your Slingbox and watch Cable/Satellite TV as if you were at sitting at home.  You will be able to have full access to all the channels, your DVR and anything you’ve recorded as long as internet access is available.

You can also watch and use Slingbox on your smartphone or tablet turning it into a TV anywhere you go! The only downfall of using it on your smartphone or tablet is it will use a lot of data so unless you have an unlimited data plan, I would not recommend using it on your smartphone. Most places has free WiFi these days, so you check if you can use WiFi instead on your mobile phone.

Compatible With Computers and Mobile Phones

Slingbox will work for MACs or PC/Laptop that runs Windows. It will also work on smartphones such as iPhone, Android  BlackBerry, Windows Phone, Symbian, and Palm OS devices.  The Slingbox will also run on Apple (iPad) and Androids tablets.

Setting Up The Slingbox Pro

slingbox pro setup

It’s a simple process to set up your Slingbox Pro HD. It’s as easy as connecting your A/V sources (DVR, cable box, DVD player, and more), connecting the Slingbox to your home network, and then setting up the Slingbox software on your computer, laptop, mac, smartphone or tablet.

Here are some of the devices that you can connect to your Slingbox Pro HD:

  • DVRs
  • DVD Player/Recorder
  • Satellite Receiver (Dish/DirectTV)
  • Cable/Digital Box
  • Video/Security Camera
  • Digital Antenna
  • Digital Cable
  • Windows Media Center
  • HD Component input support for 720p or 1080i (60Hz)

Only You Can Access Your SlingBox

The only person that can access the Slingbox is you or anyone else you give your login information to. This means that your friends and family can share the experience of the Slingbox with you.

The only problem with this is if one person changes the channel, you will be watching the new channel also. The Slingbox is great for sharing movies, sports or pay per view though. It’s a great way to save money on pay per view between friends and families.

You Have Full Control And Access To Your Devices And Programs

It doesn’t matter if you are thousand of miles away from home, the Slingbox will let you watch TV anywhere with a computer, smartphone or tablet. You will be able to control your channels/programming as if you were at home.

You will be given a remote called SlingRemote that looks like a remote control that will let you control your devices away from home. You will be able to control all of the devices that are connected to the Slingbox Pro. Pretty cool right?

Combining It With Other Media Players

I really love hooking up the WD TV Live Hub with the Slingbox. It’s great together since I have a lot of movies in my WD TV live hub. This is of course only optional as you can connect any A/V sources to your SlingBox PRO HD.

Final Thoughts On Slingbox Pro HD

I love this device for everything it has done for me. I can bring all of my devices from home (cable box, DVR, media players) without having to actually bring them with me. I can connect to all of my devices from home as long as I have internet access.

The Slingbox Pro HD will cost you $250, but it’s a one time payment and there are no monthly fees attached. This model is their top of the line model.

There are only two things that I don’t really like about the SlingBox which is there are no HDMI inputs and to watch HD, you will need a decent upload speed from your home network. It’s not a big deal though, I still love the Slingbox and definitely think it’s worth the price.

and USB port is redundant – not even as a power source – its dead and pointless…

I have the same one pictured, and you CAN NOT RECORD. Believe me I want to record a football game and can’t.
