OverPlay VPN + SmartDNS Review
OverPlay is a High Speed VPN and SmartDNS service. OverPlay VPN + SmartDNS offers two type of services: VPN & SmartDNS. SmartDNS will allow you to connect your devices to content that is normally restricted towards certain markets/countries with no loss of speed. OverPlay VPN will encrypt and secure your connection while giving you a new IP address to give let you surf the internet anonymously and allowing you to choose which country you surf from. OverPlay VPN can also bypass restricted content for certain markets/countries.
I’ve been an active member of OverPlay for almost 4 years so my opinion of this service may be a bit biased.

Let’s test out the download and upload speed when connected to a VPN server. My current download speed is at 11 Mbps and upload speed at 12 Mbps without being connected to a VPN server. Yeah, my ISP has been slow lately. I’ve tested a couple of different OverPlay VPN locations and here are the results…
- Fremont, California – 10.94 Mbps Down/1.10 Mbps Up
- Seattle, Washington – 10.54 Mbps Down/1.54 Mbps Up
- London, England – 10.36 Mbps Down/0.33 Mbps Up
- Sydney, Australia – 4.29 Mbps Down/0.22 Mbps Up
- Tokyo, Japan – 8.54 Mbps Down/0.28 Mbps Up
- Hong Kong, China – 5.38 Mbps Down/0.26 Mbps Up
I’m located in the United States so some VPN servers from different countries are slower than the ones located near me. I wish I had a faster connection to be able to test these VPN servers at a higher internet speed.
OverPlay currently offer two packages:
- SmartDNS – $4.95/month
- VPN + SmartDNS – $9.95/month
You will get a discount if you sign up for a longer term.
SmartDNS is simple to use. All you need to do is change your computer’s DNS address to get started. You can then log into your OverPlay account to change the service location for different services. For Example, you can access your US Netflix account and your UK NFL GamePass at the same time.
SmartDNS works similar to a VPN service with no loss of speed. You will be able to access content/websites that are restricted to certain countries or markets. SmartDNS will work with computers, mobile, gaming consoles, streaming devices, smart TVs and routers.
OverPlay VPN is even easier to setup. You simply install the software, enter your username/password and select your VPN server to start. If you’re confused on how to setup the VPN services, check out OverPlay’s VPN Setup Guide. OverPlay VPN will work with computers, mobile devices and routers.
Unlike the SmartDNS service, your connection will be secure and encrypted from the country you choose. This is a great way to protect your online privacy, enjoy unrestricted web browsing and unblock regional content securely.
OverPlay will work for Windows, Mac, iOS, Droid, Linux or a custom router.
OverPlay only logs connection times and data usage totals which is what most VPNs do. They will not log what sites you visited. This doesn’t mean you can do whatever you want as everything can be tracked back to you if you get reported by the website owners.
I’ve been an active member of OverPlay for almost 4 years so I obviously love OverPlay and would recommend it to my friends and family. Here are some proof shoots of my active membership…
The reason I love OverPlay is because it’s simple to use, the speed is fast, it’s reliable and there’s rarely any downtime. I don’t remember the last time I got disconnected from the OverPlay VPN service due to reliability issues. I know that when compared to other big name VPN services, the features and IP addresses/server locations are a bit lacking but I don’t need features that I don’t use. I just need a VPN that is simple to use and has all the features I need. OverPlay just works for me.
Having trouble deciding between the two OverPlay plans? SmartDNS is the best choice for users just wanting unrestricted access to blocked streaming websites or content based on your geographic location. The VPN service is for users who prefer a secure and encrypted connection to everything they do online. The VPN service also comes with SmartDNS.
