Best Gaming Headsets For The Year 2012-2013

A gaming headset is a must for any serious gamer which can cost you anywhere from $60-$250 for a good headset. A gamer headset will let you hear sounds that you would not be able to hear as well with a regular headset or computer speaker system would is a huge advantage to a gamer. Gaming headsets also blocks out external noise for both the microphone and the headphones itself. Here are my top 3 picks for gaming headsets for the year 2012-2013

#1: Astro A40 Headset – $249.99

The Astro A40 is the official PC gaming headset of the Major League Gaming. The price of the Astro A40 with MixAmp Pro is priced at $249.99 which is expensive, but it’s worth it knowing that you have the best gaming headset money can buy. Astro gaming has been persistent when it comes to excellence in gaming and it has paid off. No other gaming headset has claimed more tournament wins than the A40 headsets.

  • Audio – The Astro A40 comes with MixAmp which offers digitally imitated 7.1 surround sound. MixAmp also allows you to use these headsets for the XBOX 360 or PS3 consoles. If you choose not to use MixAmp, this gaming headset outputs quality stereo sound which still produce clear and crisp highs.
  • Design – The design on the A40 is built to be comfortable since hardcore gamers play for multiple hours each day. The combination of well-designed headband and ear couplings makes it comfortable even if you plan on playing for multiple hours per day. Unlike cheap gaming headsets, you will not need to keep adjusting your microphone positioning. You will barely notice that you are wearing the headset even if you are playing for hours without a break.

If you can afford the price tag of the A40 for $249.99, then I would recommend it because it’s the best gaming headset money can buy at the moment. It’s an award winning headset and approved by the MLG as their official gaming headset. The Audio is superior to all the other headsets. You can get The Astro A40 2013 Edition + MixAmp for $250.

#2: Turtle Beach HeadPhones – $68

If you cannot afford the Astro A40 gaming headset, I would recommend the Turtle Beach Z6A. The Turtle Beach Z6A PC headset combines audio quality and comfort of a professional-grade gaming headset with multi-speaker 5.1 surround sounds. There are eight premium speakers including dual subwoofers which are powered by a 5.1 channel amplifier with bass enhancement  You can adjust the Turtle Beach and tune it to create the perfect sound.

Comes with noise-cancelling boom mic which reduces background noise and auto mutes when rotated up. There are three programmable G-Keys with one-touch commands over chat clients, voice morphing and more. I didn’t see no problem with distortion when I was taking these headsets to the kitchen or a different room for testing purposes. The charge on these will last for 10 hours, but you can also use a USB to connect to your PC to always have it running at all times.

  • Audio – 7.1 surround sound with advanced Dolby technology to deliver detailed positional audio. The newer games these days will support 7.1 surround sound, but if a game doesn’t support it, the Logitech G930 will imitate the 7.1 surround sound for games that don’t support it.
